Diwali Taxi in Ahmedabad: Going Home to Rajkot, Surat and Vadodara

By Ahmedabad Cabs Published 15 August 2026 6 min read

A Diwali taxi in Ahmedabad is easiest to book weeks before the festival, not in the last two days. Trains to Rajkot and Surat fill up early. Buses run full and slow. If your family lives in Saurashtra, South Gujarat or Vadodara, a private taxi lets you leave when you want and carry the sweets, gifts and bags that come with the festival.

Diwali is on Sunday, 8 November 2026. Dhanteras is Friday the 6th and Bestu Varas is Monday the 9th. Those are the days everyone travels, so this is how we would plan your trip if we were in your place.

Why families pick a taxi at Diwali

Three reasons come up again and again.

Door to door. You leave from your home and arrive at your parents' gate. Nobody drags bags across a railway platform on the night before Dhanteras.

Room for gifts. Sweet boxes, dry fruit hampers and new clothes take more space than people expect. A car handles all of it.

Comfort for elders. Grandparents can stop when they need to. No queue, no crowded coach, no rush.

What the drive looks like

RouteDistanceDrive timeRoad
Ahmedabad to Vadodara110 kmAbout 2 hoursNE1 Expressway or NH48
Ahmedabad to Rajkot215 kmAbout 3.5 hoursNH27
Ahmedabad to Surat265 kmAbout 4.5 hoursNE1 Expressway

Ahmedabad to Rajkot taxi

Rajkot is 215 km away, and the drive along NH27 takes about 3.5 hours. It is a busy highway used by trucks and business travelers, so allow a little extra time if you leave at a peak hour. A lot of families use Rajkot as a base for onward trips to Gondal, Jamnagar, Dwarka and Somnath, and we can arrange multi stop itineraries if your relatives are spread across Saurashtra.

A sedan or an Ertiga can take you one way, and the driver can also wait for a same day return. Full details: Ahmedabad to Rajkot taxi

Ahmedabad to Surat taxi

Surat is 265 km away, about 4.5 hours. Most of the drive runs on the NE1 Expressway, so traffic through towns is minimal and the ride stays smooth. This is the longest of the three drives, so start early, especially if you are traveling with children.

A sedan or an Ertiga can take you one way. Same day returns with the driver waiting are possible. Full details: Ahmedabad to Surat taxi

Ahmedabad to Vadodara taxi

Vadodara is the shortest trip, 110 km and about two hours on the NE1 Expressway or NH48. Many people do it as a same day round trip, and it is a good route if you want to squeeze in Laxmi Vilas Palace or Sayaji Baug after the family visit.

A sedan or an Ertiga can take you one way, and it is the easiest of the three for a same day trip. Full details: Ahmedabad to Vadodara taxi

Which car for your route

Toll, permit and border tax are extra. Hatchbacks are available on round trips only, and Innova bookings are billed as round trips.

A sedan suits up to four people with two bags. If your group is five or six, take the Ertiga, which also gives you the boot space for gifts.

One way taxi from Ahmedabad or a round trip?

If you are staying with family through Bhai Dooj, book a one way taxi from Ahmedabad and arrange your return when you know your date. You do not pay for a driver to wait for days, and your return day does not have to match your departure day.

If you are going for a single day, a round trip with the driver waiting makes more sense. Read the full comparison in One Way Taxi From Ahmedabad or Round Trip. The short version is to choose based on your plan, not on price.

When to book and when to travel

Most families leave in the last working days before Dhanteras and return after Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November. Those two windows fill first, so if your dates fall inside them, send your request early. Travelers who can leave on Saturday 7 November, or come back a day or two after Bhai Dooj, usually have more choice and quieter roads.

Send us your request at least three weeks before your date if you can. It is not a rule, only the point at which cars and drivers still have plenty of room in the diary.

Four things that make a Diwali taxi in Ahmedabad easier

Book your return when you book the trip. The hardest car to find in Diwali week is the one going back to Ahmedabad on Bhai Dooj or the weekend after. If you know your return date, tell us on the first call.

Choose an Ertiga if you carry gifts. An Ertiga gives you a lot more boot space than a sedan, which matters when the back seat is stacked with sweet boxes.

Leave outside the peak. Highways out of Ahmedabad are busiest just before Dhanteras and again on the way back. A start before 7 am or after the evening rush saves real time.

Keep crackers out of the car. It is a fire risk on a highway drive.

Driving with parents or young kids

A long festival drive is easier when you plan the stops. Start after breakfast rather than before dawn if elders are traveling, and stop roughly every two hours for tea and a short walk. Keep water, snacks and any medicines in a bag on the seat, not in the boot. If a child gets car sick, tell us when you book and sit them in the front or by a window.

Coming back to Ahmedabad after Diwali

The return leg is where people get stuck. Everyone wants to travel back on the same day, so plan it early.

Rajkot to Ahmedabad trips are booked the same way as Ahmedabad to Rajkot. We also handle direct drops at the Ahmedabad airport and railway station, with a buffer built in for your flight or train time. Vadodara to Ahmedabad trips work the same way, so ask us for the fare.

If you are heading back for a flight, tell us the flight number and we plan the pickup around it. See our Rajkot to Ahmedabad taxi page.

Traveling with the whole family?

If you are more than six, consider a Tempo Traveller. Our guide to Tempo Traveller on rent in Ahmedabad for a Diwali family trip covers vehicle sizes and seating.
